Yahoo // Refining Direction

I had a tutorial to touch base with my design direction because I still feel that I was going round in circles and not answering the brief properly, and I was right. I was going too much into detail with each concept and not thinking of the basics of how can I get teenagers to look at the website, and where would be best to place this advert.

Keep it simple - raise awareness of the brand. The brief talks about having the deliverables across digital...tablets etc, but in my tutorial there was an idea to emboss the yahoo logo onto phone and tablet protective covers...as a starting point.

On my previous worksheet I have written notes from the tutorial which I was told to go and have a think about because I was getting too caught up in the details and not thinking big enough.

I have been thinking too much about what the brief wants but I have to now flip it around and look at what the target audience will want to see in terms of design, how do they use the internet, how long to they use it and what do they use it for. Once I have answered these questions I can start to think more about the idea behind it.

One thing that came up in the tutorial was blogging and how Yahoo used to have Geocities...the first introduction to having an internet presence, it was a form of html and before blogging and Facebook / Bebo were around. An idea is to propose to bring this back and update it because the younger generation are intense blog followers, many of them have their own blogs or make video blogs and post them on youtube. Currently it is how people learnt and discover information on the internet, personal connections with a faceless fan-base.
