I started these worksheets yesterday but overnight I started thinking that I was not really following the brief, so I came in this morning and talked to Andy and was right. I had started going in the wrong direction and trying to design the new face for Yahoo instead of attracting new users (13-18 year olds) to the current page, and the brief was more of an digital advertising based design brief. I still want to incorporate where I was going for re-designign the website of Yahoo because I had lots of ideas, but this is something that I can write and base a brief on next term, also when I have had more experience in designing websites.
The first couple of worksheets do still relate to the brief as they are looking at the important elements on the current Yahoo page and researching what the target audience like to get out of a web page, and what this advertising campaign needs to be based on.
The brief says that they want simple, classic engagement rather than heavy, tech intensive work and it is more about the placement and the content that should attract the target audience. The campaign needs to be short, witty, and humorous to attract the teenagers, something that will catch their attention...find a screen in an unexpected place and be intrigued as why it was there.
This brief is more about a big idea that can be applied across a range of medias. It is primarily a digital based brief but I do still need to keep in mind about applying it to print advertising and also where these would be placed.
My idea is to still have the main 4 or 5 subjects / pages from the website and to have an advert for each, or a range of adverts, depending on how well the development goes. It has to be bright to catch the attention of the target audience.
