Progress Tutorial - Curious Eats & Alternate Music Room

I had a tutorial with Andy as I seem to be getting stuck in one place of design and not be able to move on to other design now that I have finished the logo for the two briefs. I had a set of questions which were all based along the line of how to move forward, are my designs appropriate, how to chose an appropriate range without not either exploring enough or trying to do too much and not ensuring the designs are developed to their best possible level. The feedback and points to move forward to were...

CURIOUS EATS;

The logo mark itself is fairly loose so don't use a hard edged shape to encase it, explore different and softer types to present the logo.

Many of the other designs look too normal, look like something you buy in tesco etc, they are not exploring and representational of this brand which is DIFFERENT.

Look at dye cutting the shape - good feedback on the circluar bell shaped design, I could move forward with this format.

Reflect back on the BRAND STATEMENT - how can I represent the work curious through the packaging, what does curious mean and how can I represent it through design.

How can I make people curious about the product; through type (riddle, question mark, interesting bit of text) this may give the brand more of a character (like Innocent Smoothie). I need to be able to sell the IDEA to the client and have reasons for choosing the stock and colour not just because it looks nice. Think about how I can make the idea of the CURIOUSNESS with the packaging.

Make it FUNCTIONAL but PREMIUM.

At the moment the packaging designs are looking very high end and expensive. The brand is about good quality, locally sourced at an affordable price so I need to go back and make design decisions based on this statement. White is a good stock colour to use because it is plain, clean, cheaper, minimal and functional.

Work out how much room I have on each of the packaging and go from there. Go and find prototypes and shapes of packaging. The packaging could be for something completely different...but I apply it to the brand and design and that is what makes it 'curious'.

Work out a whole system and apply it to a whole range.

Explore simple shapes, outlines, type for other part of the brand (like tesco everyday)....there needs to be something more to the brand other than just the logo. Something that can be transferrable across different medias.

Find a decent bit of reference for them, then draw over them. Try not to avoid illustration etc - keep it simple if in doubt but chose an image that can relate to all three sections of the brand.

Different shaped jars; I could keep them small with the idea that because the products are fresh their life span is shorter so you only need smaller amounts at a time. Make the packaging curious / different

ALTERNATE MUSIC ROOM

Good feedback on the new logo, strong and works well. He said that I dont need the text underneath it as of yet, and also to not have it directly below, play around with it a bit more because it dulls down the logo other wise.

PUBLICATIONS; I was worried that because I am writing the content to each of my proposed publications because it is a research driven and content driven brief, that I wouldn't have enough time. He said I should just do the complete content and mock up 1 one whole publication, then do 2 other covers and placeholder text the rest, with images if you want.

This will give 3 different cover designs, 1 full publication, different stocks and binding. Then photograph them all in context.

I could then move on to do an add campaign, advertising this magazine in another magazine, I could do After affects advert...or even just after effects logo development....I need to look into press adds. Think about how I can made this brand more belieavable. BADGES; I could mock up and actually print out....
