This is the concept that I am going with. The idea that everyone has a point in the day where they need to use the moment, and the answer for this is instead of having to troll through pages on Google, Yahoo will have it. For every moment there is Yahoo.
The most important / most used sections of Yahoo at the moment are;
YAHOO ANSWERS
This section provides personal responses and feedback of questions and experiences. It is a more reliable and creditable source for a question rather than typing it into Google and getting a list of pages. If a user was to type a question into Google, the first link that comes up is generally a direct link to the Yahoo Answer page and the responses of people.
YAHOO MAIL
That age group don't use email as much as they use Facebook message and chat, however with that age group Hotmail is a 'cooler' account to use, Yahoo is slightly more complicated whereas Hotmail only has one function, email / chat / messenger. For this section I need to try and bring the trend back to it being popular to have a Yahoo account, the strap line / line of text about the section needs to relate to having all the information you need on one page rather than having Facebook on one page, hotmail on another, and Youtube music on another and Google search engine on another page...Yahoo has it all in one place...I have to try and persuade the target audience to sign up with Yahoo...this is the first step to...making their lives easier, quicker etc because everything they need is one one page.
I would also need to design headers for each page / colour code them and design the icons for each section.
YAHOO GAMES
Gaming is a huge part of the target audiences lifestyle. Even if they don't play video games, many of them will download games / apps on their smart phone to play. I want to target moment when the games may be necessary; public transport / school runs, waiting around...there is more research needed to be done on this as I am not much of a gamer myself.
OTHER IMPORTANT AREAS;
- MAPs - although Google maps has completely taken over, there may be not much point to trying to compete with this
LIFESTYLE - gossip, fashion, blogs etc - I think that this is a very important section. The target audience may not necessarily watch or read the news but they are interested in celebrities, fashion, blogs, scandals etc, health, love & sex, fitness, horoscopes etc are areas that would be good to have.
TV / MOVIES / ENTERTAINMENT
This is another main area that I feel I should focus on - this does also relate to lifestyle and the celebrity culture however I feel this section would be important, it could be the alternative to IMBD - trailers, reviews, news, features, TV series / shows to watch etc
SPORT
Sport is a huge part of every community, however I feel that there are so many other places that the target audience already use to catch up and be in the know with sport and the people / teams they follow that if I was to include this, it would be a similar situation with the Google Maps, fighting a lost cause because this section is already well established in the community of the target audience.
